The thermodynamic theory developed in [1] is extended to describe the uniaxial stress induced cubic-tetragonal martensitic transformation. The theory is found to provide a good quantitative agreement with the experimentally observed σ − T phase diagram of martensitic transformation exhibited by Ni–Mn–Ga alloys (σ is the uniaxial compressive stress in [110] direction).
