Two different strategies for the calculation of the eddy-current transient response based on the solution of the Helmholtz equation in the complex frequency plane are compared in terms of their numerical performance. The use of the complex frequency spectrum approach proves to be better suited for the solution of problems with high dissipation than the Fourier transform method. This comes however at the price that the domain of the inverse operator exceeds the whole complex plane, which makes its numerical evaluation less trivial than in the case of the Fourier transform. It will be shown that the choice of the optimal inversion algorithm is problem-dependent.
